I don't know about you, but it feels like Easter has come around really fast, and as a result, everyone is trying to get feedback before the holidays. If you didn't catch last week's newsletter with 5 important events/consultations happening over this week and next, you can catch up here. I'm involved in all of them in some way or other, so that means talking to lots of CCReW about how they organise themselves (register here to contribute to this paid market research), hosting today's ARCS Consumer Partnerships meeting where CT:IQ spoke about their project to improve trial participant information forms, and driving to Canberra to attend the Parliamentary Friends of Womens Health morning tea tomorrow as one of the supporters of the #NavigatingHealth initiative. My interest in this collaborative is in ensuring that navigating research is made easier and embedded as a key aspect of navigating health. So, that's why this newsletter is a bit late today!

Post last week's newsletter, I've had some people indicate they would like to discuss the ACTA draft recommendations for increasing participation of people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds in clinical trials with other consumers. So I've set up a Zoom meeting Mon 3Apr 7.30-9pm to enable that discussion. Sorry it's so late in the day, but trying to avoid everyone's work hours, family dinners, and squeezing it in before Easter is a challenge. If you are a consumer interested in attending that meeting, please register online. Registration will give you the Zoom link and make sure I have everyone's email, in case an outcome of the meeting is the need for further follow-up. I'd be grateful if you could share the registration information, rather than sharing the link, to make sure I don't run out of room in the meeting.

If you are interested in how health data is going to be collected and managed in order to inform the quality and safety of our healthcare system, I'd really encourage you to take a look at attending the Commission's consumer consultation meeting happening 5 Apr, referenced in the last newsletter. I think the new framework being consulted on has considerable implications for both primary and secondary use of health data, so it is really important health consumers are across the changes being proposed. The official consultation on the new framework for clinical quality registries closes this Fri 31 Mar. However, the Commission are providing additional time for consumers that attend this meeting to respond, to ensure consumer perspectives are taken into account.

Next week, I also hope to open up the next round of CCReW scholarships, which will provide travel support for 2-3 people to attend the ARCS Conference in Sydney on the 6-8 Jun. In the meantime, if you think you might like to apply for one of the CCReW scholarships, make sure you apply to ARCS by 14 Apr for a chance to be awarded a free consumer registration scholarship. Effect of Content Specificity in Interpretation Training for Adults with Social Anxiety Symptoms. This blinded, randomised controlled, treatment study running in Sydney is looking for 110 people aged 18 years and older, fluent in English and with elevated symptoms of social anxiety.
Dental and Skeletal Changes Following Bone- and Tooth-borne Maxillary Protraction with Miniscrews and Class III Elastics. This non-randomised treatment study running in Melbourne is looking for 30 children aged 9-12 with their permanent premolars/canines and first premolar erupted, needing to correct a specific skeletal jaw concern.
Investigating the effect of Swisse's body activator product on mild to moderate fatigue symptoms in middle-aged adults. This non-randomised treatment study running across Australia is looking for 240 relatively healthy people aged 45-60 years with mild-moderate symptoms of fatigue.
Deep oropharyngeal air pressure measurements in newborns on non-invasive respiratory support (AIRPREMO Study). This observational study running in Melbourne is enrolling 20 babies with a current weight of 2 kg or more, treated at the Royal Women's Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit receiving non-invasive respiratory support.
A clinical trial to determine the safety and tolerability of GRWD5769 in patients with solid malignancies. This modular, multi-part, multi-arm, open-label, Phase I/II study running in NSW, SA and VIC is looking for 36 people aged 18 years or older with a locally advanced or metastatic solid malignancy not considered appropriate for further standard treatment (plus extensive other criteria).
A Study of RO7247669 Plus Platinum-Based Chemotherapy vs Pembrolizumab Plus Platinum-Based Chemotherapy in Participants With Previously Untreated Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer. This international, blinded, randomised controlled, phase 2 treatment study running in QLD, SA and VIC is looking for 180 people with locally advanced, unresectable (Stage IIIB/IIIC) or metastatic (Stage IV) non small cell lung cancer who are not eligible for curative surgery and/or definitive chemoradiotherapy, have had no prior systemic treatment for metastatic NSCLC and have a known tumor PD-L1 status (plus other criteria).
A Study of Doravirine/Islatravir (DOR/ISL, MK-8591A) for the Treatment of Human Immunodeficiency Virus 1 (HIV-1) Infection in Participants Who Previously Received DOR/ISL (MK-8591A-054). This international phase 3, open label, single group, treatment study running in Sydney is looking for 1300 people globally aged 18 years or older currently receiving doravirine/islatravir (DOR/ISL) adult fixed dose combination (FDC) tablet in Merck Sharp & Dohme (MSD)-sponsored clinical studies (MK-8591A-017, -018, -020, and -033 [except for heavily treatment-experienced (HTE) participants]).
Dose Escalation and Efficacy Study of 212Pb-ADVC001 in Patients With Metastatic Castration Resistant Prostate Cancer This open-label, phase 1/2 treatment study running in Brisbane is looking for 18 people aged 18 years or older with metastatic adenocarcinoma of the prostate and a number of other specific criteria.
Minimising Adverse Drug Reactions and Verifying Economic Legitimacy in Children (MARVEL-PIC). This open-label, randomised controlled, supportive care study running in Melbourne is looking for 440 people aged younger than 18 with a new cancer diagnosis or receiving HSCT.
SAD Study of APR002 Investigating the Safety/ Tolerability, Pharmacokinetics/ Pharmacodynamics in Healthy Subjects. This Phase 1, Randomized, Blinded, Placebo-Controlled, First-in-Human, Single Ascending Dose study running in Adelaide is looking for 48 healthy volunteers aged 18-55 years.
A Clinical Study to Evaluate the Safety, Tolerability and Efficacy of IOS-1002 Administered Alone and in Combination With a PD-1 Monoclonal Antibody in Advanced Solid Tumors. This phase 1a/1b, first-in-human, open-label, non-randomised, dose-escalation and cohort expansion study running in Melbourne and Perth is looking for 140 people aged 18 years or older with a metastatic and/or unresectable advanced solid tumor, that has relapsed or is refractory to at least 1 standard treatment regimen (plus other criteria).

The following are some upcoming opportunities and events spotted that may be of interest:

A Patient Focussed Medicine Development working group have developed a Fair Patient Engagement (PE) Planner, a co-created tool to facilitate good practices in defining patient engagements and empower open and transparent dialogue on fair remuneration for activities between the patient community and the pharmaceutical industry. This tool operationalizes the harmonised Global Remuneration Principles. For testing the tool, they are assembling a piloting and implementation community. This informal community will meet quarterly for one year, starting shortly after the launch of the Fair PE Planner in April. PFMD have asked me if there is interest in an Oceania chapter testing the tool. If you think you or your organisation might be interested in being involved, please drop me an email.
